SCALING THE IMPACT OF INCLUSIVE POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION
SUPPORTING STUDENT SUCCESS BY MAKING IT UNREMARKABLE FOR STUDENTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES TO LEARN, DEVELOP CAREERS AND PURSUE THEIR PASSIONS ALONGSIDE OTHER STUDENTS WHEN PLANNING FOR POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION.
When looking to the future, planning for high school students with developmental disabilities has historically focused on establishing disability related supports with little emphasis on establishing a positive vision for the future and supporting expectations that students can achieve success, and lead meaningful and inclusive lives. This dynamic has meant that young people are not encouraged to consider post-secondary educations as part of their pathway to developing their talents, interest and career aspirations. Having access to the established, strength-based resources that instill a sense of purpose and the expectation of a positive future for students planning for post-secondary education encourages all students to dream big and plan for a purposeful life. |

We do not want this website to be yet another separate space for students with developmental disabilities, but to be an exemplar of resources that support all students, including students with developmental disabilities, who want to attend and plan for Post-Secondary Education. As well as providing resources we hope that this site will inspire and encourage students and their families to make use of these resources to support their dreams for post-secondary education. To be honest, we would prefer that this web-site didn't exist at all and that expectations for students with developmental disabilities wanting to attend Post-Secondary Education are normalized and supported within the same educational pathways and resources that exist for all students. |
